The multi-dimensional scaling (MDS) of Nei’s pairwise genetic distances was used with the adegenet package in R to infer whether the specimens were correctly assigned to their respective species. Allelic richness per locus, diversity within and between species for each individual were inferred with FSTAT 2.9.3.2 [109]. We found a negative correlation between number of calls and allelic richness. This negative correlation may explain the significant difference in allelic richness between parapatric (E. cinereiceps, E. collaris, E. rufifrons and individuals of E. albifron) and allopatric (E. albifrons, E. fulvus, E. rufus) and sympatric (E. sanfordi) clades. This negative correlation was expected since the number of calls represents a proxy for vocal learning of call diversity. We hypothesized that when individuals were assigned to several groups than we would also have observed a significant difference in allelic richness between the species groups. We found significant differences in allelic richness between allopatric and sympatric clades with the exception of E. collaris and E. rufifrons. 7211a4ac4a
